Advanced Pronunciation/Grammar for International Executives, Scientists, and Engineers

This series of 15 weekly coaching sessions, led by accent expert, Marlene Schoenberg, Ed.M., will provide you with the training and tools you need to increase your accurate English pronunciation as well as refine high-level grammar skills.

In addition, you will learn to understand and use a variety of business idioms. Beginning with an interview with the consultant, a customized program will be created. She will assist you in setting up a plan where you will learn specific areas for self- improvement in articulation (speech sounds), intonation, and and work related stress patterns in phrases and long words.

You will gain an understanding of American cultural voice patterns and how the sound system of your native language may influence your American English pronunciation. By understanding speech sound positions and learning a phonetic approach to pronunciation, you can resolve many of the confusing differences between written and spoken professional English expressions.

Audio and video feedback, as well as guided consultation, will help you move forward in your business goals. There will also be opportunities for follow-up.

Some international executives can speak well but struggle with clarity in e-mail. Written patterns often reflect native language structures. Beginning with an analysis of the kinds of e-mail a client sends and receives, as well as an assessment of written grammar patterns, the consultant designs a customized e-mail program for each client. This takes place in the distance learning format.

Many international professionals can easily discuss their work but may not be familiar with basic conversational vocabulary that comes naturally to American co-workers by growing up with American English. Many professionals want to increase their vocabulary to prepare for graduate entry exams such as the GRE or GMAT.

Intensive Two Day Executive Seminar plus follow-up

In this program, executives and key employees are flown to the Twin Cities for an intensive two day Advanced Pronunciation/Grammar consultation.
The program begins with an assessment, and then a customized plan is developed. An intensive program is practiced face-to-face with audio and video feedback. There is a distance learning component over the next three to six month period. And a one day follow-up visit at the client's company office.

The speech consultant can work intensively with international scientists or engineers right before a major presentation to ensure clarity for the audience. This can take place in the Twin Cities, at the conference site, or at the client's company site.

Enhance Your Verbal Grammar!- 3 half day sessions plus follow ups

This course is designed for native- born Americans who grew up in rural areas or inner-city neighborhoods and want their speech to reflect their current technical knowledge. The class will help prepare participants for their next job move. Through a social / creative approach and intensive patterned grammar practice, class members can begin to transform old grammar patterns into speaking confidence. Verbal skills can more closely match career goals with the practice of standard grammar patterns in a supportive environment with an experienced instructor.

Assertiveness for Career Impact
2 day seminar or twelve 1.5 hour classes

Assertive behaviors are different in different cultures and ethnic groups. How do you translate your ambitions into positive work behaviors? How do others in your group perceive you? Where do you place yourself on the assertiveness continuum? Which situations demand more assertiveness and which do not? You will learn how your behavior impacts others. You will learn how to make and prioritize requests to increase your personal power.

Vocal features such as volume, and more powerful intonation will be practiced. Strong , dynamic non-verbal actions will be modeled. The instructor will address reading the subtle verbal and non-verbal cues of your listener. You will learn how to stand your ground positively in conflict situations. You can gain confidence in communicating with higher level executives and maintain your dignity.
